SALE BOARD GRADING:

Occasionally some defects are found in our finished products. If found on the cutting surface, the boards are listed under our sale range and will have a short description describing the defect and it’s effect on the board. While Grade 1 boards are covered by our usual one year warranty. Grade 2 & 3 DO NOT.

GRADE 1:

Very minor surface imperfections that will not effect the longevity of the board. E.g. visual imperfections, few small cracks/voids not near the edge, small resin filled cracks/areas.

GRADE 2:

Surface imperfections that could affect the longevity of the board. If treated correctly should not be an issue. E.g. longer/larger hairline cracks not near an edge, larger filled areas, larger knots, small voids.

GRADE 3:

Surface and edge imperfections that could affect the longevity of the board. Cracks may be present on the edge of the board which have the potential to open further. E.g. longer/larger cracks near/on an edge, larger filled areas, larger knots, small/large voids.

We try to grade and list defects as accurately as possible. If you are unsure please see the photos or contact us for more information. We would not recommend either Grade 2/3 as gifts.

An end grain chopping boards surface is up to one and a half times harder than a standard "face grain" cutting board alternative. The orientation of the wood means that a knife will slide between the fibres of the wood rather than cutting them; meaning your knives will stay sharper for longer.

Unlike regular face grain chopping boards, regular treatment with our Oil and Wax will cause the board to "self-heal". This will impel the wood fibres to expand and close together around many of the scratches and cuts on the surface; almost bringing back the original surface finish.
